The Stranger Who Saved My Life

In 2010, Fred Schmitthammer was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and given only a 15% chance of long-term survival following a bone marrow transplant.

A worldwide donor search identified Pierre, a young man from Germany who had joined the donor registry after a teammate was diagnosed with leukemia. Pierre's decision to register ultimately saved Fred's life.

Today, Fred and Pierre remain close friends and meet regularly with their families. Their story is a powerful reminder of how one person's decision to become a donor can change another person's life forever.
